Uniform appliances: form and function at the heart of contemporary design

With the kitchen becoming an increasingly social space, how your appliances look is as important as the results that they deliver. No longer is the kitchen a space reserved for the reclusive chef who perfects dishes out of the view of guests. Instead, home entertaining has evolved into a much more collaborative affair, where guests and hosts alike will share the cooking space, perhaps gathering around a large kitchen island, lending a hand with serving and enjoying the process of creating a meal as a group.

Choosing beautiful appliances that are designed to match is a fantastic way to create a cohesive design that doesn’t distract from the unique personality of the kitchen design. The kitchen should be a space that you’re proud to entertain in.

When DMC’s very own founder Susan Tyldesley and her husband Clive started planning their kitchen remodel, they were keen to achieve a multi-functional, contemporary space that served both as a work-from-home and entertainment space. Susan shares why she is pleased with her decision to specify a matching bank of Fisher & Paykel’s contemporary black glass appliances in her brand-new open-plan kitchen diner.

“I love that the Fisher Paykel ovens suite is so subtle and understated. It enhances the design of the kitchen rather than overpowering it. The four appliances are from left to right coffee machine, microwave oven and two multifunction ovens. On the left is the integrated Double DishDrawer™ which is hidden away but so supremely practical. Our biggest indulgence is probably the 76 cm wide Stainless-Steel fridge which is an incredible piece of equipment, and our fresh produces lasts many days longer in it.” said Susan Tyldesley.
