Otto Tiles introduces new eye-catching zellige designs

Artisan tile studio, Otto Tiles & Design, has expanded its collection of zellige tiles with two new eye-catching launches; arch terracotta and stripes zellige.

Made in Morocco, from a particular type of clay sourced from the region of Fez, zellige tiles are hand-made, hand-chiselled and hand-painted using natural paints, so each tile is unique.

Zellige making is an ancient art form passed down through generations. It is labour intensive and requires many years of training. Due to their handmade production process, zellige tiles have a slightly irregular surface and may feature tiny chips, erratic edges, and corners, which gives them a rustic character and means that no two zellige tiles are the same.

The zellige stripes design is available in four vibrant colourways; Blue Marine, Ecru Rose, Forest Green and Citron. The tiles have a mesh backing for easy installation and can be used to create vertical or horizontal stripes. Alternatively, they can be laid both vertically and horizontally for an on-trend checkerboard pattern.

The zellige arch terracotta tiles feature a playful and striking graphic pattern. Each tile is hand-chiselled with an enamel glaze. Choose from muted tones of white or pink or bolder hues of black or amber. Alternatively, mix various colours together to create an eye-catching pattern.

Damla Turgut, founder of Otto Tiles & Design, says, “We are delighted to launch our newest zellige tiles, which feature bold stripes and chiselled arch patterns, blending modern designs with traditional hand-crafting techniques and East meets West influences. We are always striving to bring something new to the tile market, and these new designs are Otto’slatest contemporary take on zellige tiles.”

The arch terracotta and stripes zellige tiles are both suitable for use on walls in a range of environments, including both indoors and outdoors, in high-traffic areas, in wet rooms, and for fireplaces. The collection is available at Otto Tiles & Design’s showroom in Hackney. The collection is also available online at www.ottotiles.co.uk.
