Originally introduced by Schlüter®-Systems almost 40 years ago, the DITRA uncoupling membrane revolutionised the flooring industry with its advanced features, including load distribution, vapour management, and effective waterproofing. Over the years, these benefits have been enhanced, making DITRA a key product within Schlüter®-Systems’ diverse portfolio, now encompassing around 12,000 well-established product lines.
Low-profile & easy installation
The DITRA membrane’s low-profile, dovetail-shaped design improves the adhesion of tiles and natural stone, while its fleece backing ensures strong bonding to a variety of substrates. This feature allows DITRA to lay flat, facilitating faster and easier installation.
More recent innovations have expanded the DITRA concept to accommodate even more applications, including:
Adhesive-Free Installation: Designed for general builders and bathroom installers, this feature simplifies the installation process.
Integration with Underfloor Heating: DITRA now works seamlessly with installer-friendly heating systems.
Peel & Stick Technology: The DITRA-PS version features a pressure-sensitive release film, allowing the membrane to be repositioned until pressure is applied. Once pressure is set, the membrane sticks securely, ensuring a perfect fit.
The Schlüter®-DITRA-PS membrane is especially ideal for challenging substrates, like P5 green chipboard, which typically cannot support traditional tile adhesives. DITRA Peel & Stick simplifies installation without the mess of adhesive.
Delivering warmth to the room
For projects requiring independent heating, Schlüter® offers DITRA-HEAT and DITRA-HEAT-DUO. These systems are not only great for ceramic tiles, natural stone, and vinyl but can also be used to warm wall areas. Heat output is easily adjustable via smart home controls or conventional thermostats. DITRA-HEAT is available in both mat and roll formats.
One of Schlüter®-Systems strategic strengths is that it has always listened to its customers’ needs which is why DITRA-SOUND was introduced to the range in 2017, very much suiting the trends towards multi-generational living and the popularity of apartment developments.
Retaining the original fleece-backed polyethylene membrane construction and low height, the heavy-duty version of the original DITRA has been independently tested to ISO 140-8 to prove it offers an impact sound reduction of 13 dB; though the perceived performance in terms of how footsteps and falling objects are heard in the room below, will vary depending on the overall floor/ceiling construction.
The Schlüter®-DITRA family continues to offer cutting-edge solutions for both residential and commercial properties, with a focus on uncoupling performance, easy installation, and a wide array of complementary benefits across its various versions.
