HBH Woolacotts sees earlyfood waste disposer sales success

One of the South West’s largest independent electrical and appliance retailers is enjoying new success after adding food waste disposers to its offering earlier this year.

HBH Woolacotts introduced InSinkErator products at the start of February 2026 and is already seeing the benefits through consistent sales.

When specifying products in kitchen designs, the business now estimates that 20–25% of kitchens are sold with a food waste disposer, and this figure is expected to rise significantly over time, explains HBH Woolacotts Director, Chris Hemmerle.

He said: “The new changes to recycling and the introduction of separate waste streams in households have only recently been implemented in our area, so this is the single biggest selling point and conversation starter when it comes to food waste disposers.

“People are very receptive to the product as a complementary solution, particularly in urban areas. Aside from the new recycling changes, the convenience and sustainability aspect of the product makes it attractive to customers.”

Chris continued: “We are definitely seeing consistent increases in sales since adding them to our offering and we are expecting this momentum to continue as more people discover that we sell them. Generally, a food waste disposer is a very simple add on.”

InSinkErator food waste disposers are now displayed prominently across HBH Woolacotts’ three flagship stores, with working products in each location.

“Everyone has the same challenges within kitchens, therefore the products are for everybody, and we’re seeing the heavy majority of people we speak to are interested in learning more,” Chris explained.

New food waste recycling schemes were introduced in England earlier this year and are beginning to reshape how households and businesses manage their food waste. With the changes being implemented across the country, the topic has become a more prominent conversation in recent months.

Chris concluded: “In my opinion it’s an absolute no-brainer. It’s a simple add-on sale that customers are becoming more aware of and ultimately, it’s a market that we only see growing in the near future.”
