The Milk Glass Gaselier Light is a fresh take on deVol’s Heirloom Gaselier Light, a design inspired by a memorable trip to the below stairs kitchen at Lanhydrock House in Cornwall. A simple chandelier of sorts, this iteration features very fine, translucent, conical milk glass shades, clasped between the brass screws of an airy gallery. An absolutely classic light, it is perfect for above an island or dining table and has a rare subtlety that has enchanted all who see it.
Helen Parker, DeVo’s creative director, comments, “Milk glass shades are often found at flea markets and antique fairs, but they tend to have old wiring or broken galleries, it’s really hard to find undamaged ones with a clean, sharp shape in any quantity. We always want our products to feel authentic, so rather than reinvent them, we just tweak them a little to safeguard their original function and look. To give that traditional character that we love so much, each of our shades is individually mouth-blown using glass with oxides and opacifiers added to give the milky translucent finish.”
The Heirloom Brass frame is rigid and can be ordered in three sizes to ensure the height is correct for your requirements, 710mm, 1010mm and 1210mm. de Vol recommends keeping the gaselier as low as you can to fully benefit from its beauty and ethereal light.
Parker continuess, “As always, we like lighting that is not overpowering or a statement, but classic and authentic. Milk glass has transcended fashions for hundreds of years, so it really did feel like a natural addition to the deVOL lighting collection.”
