The Primrose Hill kitchen by deVOL

Set within a Grade II-listed Victorian terrace in Primrose Hill, this thoughtfully reworked kitchen demonstrates how considered design can unlock the full potential of a period home. Originally positioned in the basement, the kitchen has been relocated to the first floor, where generous proportions and large sash windows introduce an abundance of natural light and a renewed sense of atmosphere.

The scheme centres around deVOL’s Classic English collection, with just four freestanding cupboards forming a layout that feels both restrained and highly functional. The pared-back approach enhances the sense of space, while integrated appliances – including refrigeration, waste and dishwashing – are discreetly concealed behind hand-painted cabinetry, maintaining visual continuity throughout.

A carefully balanced palette defines the room. Perimeter cabinetry is finished in a custom stony off-white, paired with an island in deVOL’s signature Pantry Blue – a combination that feels both timeless and subtly nostalgic. Surfaces are topped with honed Arabescato marble, which extends vertically to form a refined splashback and shelf detail, reinforcing the material’s presence within the space.

Aged brass hardware introduces warmth against the cooler tones, complemented by understated creamware lighting. The inclusion of classic Plumber’s Stool adds a gentle industrial note, offering contrast without disrupting the overall calm.

The result is a kitchen that balances heritage and modernity with ease – an airy, sociable environment where simplicity, craftsmanship and proportion take precedence.
