Bringing the outside in’ and multipurpose spaces

The incorporation of natural elements and the continued popularity of the multifunctional space are set to be amongst the top 2023 kitchen trends, according to kitchen surface specialist, Bushboard.

With hybrid working now firmly established for many homeowners, its impact on the design and function preferences within the kitchen will continue to drive the kitchen trends anticipated by the brand’s team of design experts. Many homeowners are choosing to adapt their kitchens into a multi-use, uncongested space in a simplistic, streamlined way.

With many swapping a commute to the office with a journey from bed to desk, it comes as no surprise that many are choosing to incorporate natural elements into their home design. As they make up for the time that they aren’t spending outside, laminate work tops with organic wood finishes can be paired with plants and foliage to help bring the outside in.

No longer just a room for food preparation, the kitchen has established itself for many as a place to socialise and work, creating a desire to make the most out of the space. Combining different thicknesses of conventional laminate surfaces can add a new level of depth and variety to a kitchen’s practical use without having to complete a full room reconfiguration.

“As the heart of the house, the kitchen can really be a real focal point for a plethora of interior design opportunities,” comments Elliott Fairlie, product manager at Bushboard, “With hybrid working becoming a permanent feature, homeowners are looking to update their interiors to suit personal and professional applications alike.

“Laminate and compact laminate surfaces can offer a range of finishes comparable to their stone or wood counterparts, with the added ease of onsite fabrication and cutting without the need for specialist tools. The finished product is also low maintenance and easy to clean, unlike its raw material equivalents, so homeowners can spend less time on housework and more time enjoying their space.”
